Snacks Factory Reorganization for Expansion Project
Haldiram Snacks Ltd | Jul, 2015 to Oct, 2015
Opportunity
The project involved the relocation of an existing snacks manufacturing line to a new location within a tight timeframe, to make room for a new production line. It required meticulous planning, coordination, design, and project management to ensure the safe dismantling and relocation of all equipment and utilities. One of the primary challenges was not only the physical dismantling and shifting of the line but also the timely procurement of various minor items and services essential to the relocation. Despite these challenges, the project was executed efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Solution
The scope of work involved a thorough study of the existing fryer line and related installations to develop a detailed plan for the safe dismantling and relocation. This included preparing a comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for both materials and services, ensuring timely procurement in close coordination with Haldiram’s purchasing team. Additionally, our team provided on-site supervision of the dismantling and shifting activities to guarantee smooth execution and minimize any potential downtime.
Outcome
A process line involves not only the main production equipment but also the associated industrial services such as steam, chilled water, compressed air, effluent, water, electricity, HVAC, and fire protection systems. Dismantling an existing, especially older, setup is a complex task that requires careful planning to ensure no components are damaged or compromised. Our team of process, mechanical, electrical, and food safety engineers thoroughly assessed the situation and developed a strategy that allowed for simultaneous execution of tasks, rather than a sequential approach, which would have taken 1-2 weeks. Thanks to our team's in-depth understanding, proactive planning, and strong sense of ownership, we successfully completed the dismantling and relocation within just 2 days, enabling adjacent production activities to resume promptly. This achievement was made possible by our team's foresight and intensive preparation prior to the scheduled shutdown.
