Opportunity
This project focused on setting up a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for producing Biscuits, Finger Snacks, Noodles, Chips, and Atta. ITC sought to build the factory to meet stringent food safety and hygienic engineering requirements. Given prior challenges with food safety compliance in design execution, ITC engaged PMG to provide added value by conducting a thorough review and gap analysis of the designs and plans created by various contractors across Masterplan, Civil and Building, PEB design, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Piping and Piperack routing and other disciplines.
Solution
PMG played a key role in ensuring the factory design met the highest standards of hygienic engineering and food safety. Our approach involved a comprehensive evaluation of the design elements, focusing on optimizing the overall layout while adhering to regulatory standards. The main efforts included:
PMG conducted a detailed review of the design documents and identified areas where adjustments could be made to improve both the safety and efficiency of the facility. By identifying potential gaps and areas of over-design, PMG was able to recommend cost-effective modifications, ensuring that the facility’s design not only met hygienic requirements but was also financially optimized.
We also provided expert advice on material selections, design specifications, and structural changes. This ensured that the design adhered to stringent food safety standards, while eliminating unnecessary complexities that could lead to increased costs.
Our scope of involvement included optimizing masterplan and layouts to ensure a seamless, hygienic flow throughout the facility. The team worked to make sure all aspects of the design—from the civil structure to internal systems—supported the long-term goal of food safety and hygiene.
Outcome
PMG’s contributions don’t stop at design review; we also provided guidance throughout the detailed engineering phase. We meticulously examined GFC (Good for Construction) drawings and worked closely with all involved stakeholders to make sure the final designs were both accurate and actionable for the construction phase.
By facilitating close collaboration among consultants and offering practical, solution-driven feedback, PMG was able to ensure that the majority of the required changes were successfully incorporated, maintaining both safety and efficiency throughout the project.
Upon completion, this facility will stand as a fully operational, hygienic food manufacturing plant designed to meet rigorous food safety standards. PMG’s involvement in refining and optimizing designs not only secured compliance but also enabled cost efficiencies through strategic design adjustments. With construction underway, PMG’s dedication to enhancing safety and hygiene benchmarks is evident, positioning the facility as a model for future projects.
