Enrobers / Coating machines
Enrobers, also known as coating machines, are pivotal in confectionery and food production, automating the process of coating products with chocolate or confectionery coatings. These machines feature precise controls for regulating coating thickness and temperature, ensuring uniform coverage. Advanced designs incorporate adjustable belts and nozzles for efficient coating application. Enrobers optimize production efficiency and consistency, enhancing the quality and appearance of coated products.
Enrobers, also known as coating machines or chocolate enrobers, are equipment used in the food industry to coat products with a layer of chocolate or other coatings. They handle a wide variety of products such as biscuits, nuts, cakes, candies, and even savoury items like meat and vegetables. Enrobing is a popular technique in the production of confectionery and bakery products, as it can improve the appearance, taste and shelf life of the products. Machines are available in various sizes and capacities, from small tabletop models to large industrial-scale units used by food manufacturers.
The working principle involves passing the food product through a liquid coating bath maintained at a controlled temperature. The liquid coating is applied to the product by a series of rollers, and excess coating is removed by a scraper mechanism. The coated product is then cooled to set the coating and packaged for distribution. The process can be run in continuous mode, where the product travels through the coating bath on a conveyor belt with excess coating scraped off as it moves, or in batch mode, where the product is placed in a tray or basket and dipped in the coating bath before excess coating is removed by a scraper mechanism.
Enrobing lines can be specified with additional features. A decorating system adds designs or patterns to the coating, and some enrobers can sprinkle toppings on top of the coating. A tunnel cooling system rapidly cools the coated product to set the coating. Typical applications include chocolate products, confectionery products, snack foods, bakery products, meat and poultry products, health and nutritional products, and frozen foods.
The global enrober and coating machines market is driven by increasing demand for convenience foods and changing consumer preferences for new and exotic flavours. The market is highly competitive and fragmented, with many regional and global players investing in R&D to develop advanced machines. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to witness significant growth due to increasing demand for chocolates and other confectionery products. Growing demand for natural and healthy food products is also shaping equipment design, with manufacturers focusing on machines that can coat food products with natural ingredients such as fruits and nuts, and on machines that can produce customised products with unique shapes, sizes and flavours.
