Meat Analogues

Meat analogues, also known as meat alternatives or mock meats, are gaining traction as a sustainable substitute for traditional meat consumption. With the rise in health consciousness and environmental concerns, these products are not just for vegetarians but for anyone looking to reduce their meat intake.

The environmental cost of a meat-based diet is significantly higher than that of a vegetarian one. It takes between 2 to 15 kilograms of plant foods to produce just 1 kilogram of meat. This stark difference has propelled the development of sustainable meat substitutes to mitigate the negative environmental impact of large-scale meat production. Meat is prized for its high-quality protein, containing all the essential amino acids in proportions beneficial to the human body. Meat proteins also offer unique functionalities in food processing, such as gelation, emulsification, and water retention.
