Quality accessories in food plant
"Food quality accessories" is a catch-all term for the auxiliary devices, implements and apparatuses that support food safety in food manufacturing — the items that enable proper handling and storage of food in a way that significantly lowers the risk of people being exposed to hazards. They are easily overlooked at the design stage, yet they are what turns a hygienic layout into a hygienic operation. They can be grouped into four classes: personal hygiene of workers, sanitization of all surfaces, equipment and utensils, maintaining a controlled environment, and implementing effective pest control.
On the personnel side, the accessories that support hygiene include hair nets, gloves, shoe covers, over sleeves, beard nets and disposable aprons. Any food service must ensure its staff members are knowledgeable about general hygiene procedures that support maintaining hygiene and halt the spread of diseases. Hand washing is necessary before preparing or serving food, after cleaning, after handling contaminated objects, and before and after wearing gloves. Hand-cleaning basins should be made of stainless steel, have contact-free activation — including soap and disinfectant dispensers — and ideally have integrated filtered hand dryers. Cleaning and sanitizing are the most important aspects of any sanitation program, so sufficient time should be given to outlining proper procedures and parameters. The tools used for cleaning in the food industry include wall brackets, brooms, dustpans, brushes and scrappers.
Uncontrolled temperature and moisture at any point in the food production cycle can often lead to the growth of bacteria, mildew or mold. These risks can be mitigated with air curtains, installed at doors and windows of food processing facilities to maintain temperature and keep flying insects out, and strip curtains — transparent curtains made of non-phthalate material, ideal for maintaining an ambient temperature, keeping out dust, flies and pests, restricting the movement of air pollutants and controlling noise. For pest control, the electric fly catcher is an electrical device that uses ultraviolet light to attract insects toward an electrified wire grid where they are electrocuted, making a zapping sound; these serve as chemical alternatives for pest control. The Rodabox is a rat catcher installed with a mouse glue trap, usually made of iron and of strong build.
