12 TPD M&M Chocolate Factory
Mars Wrigley | Apr, 2021 to Nov, 2021
Opportunity
Mars India aimed to establish a new M&M chocolate manufacturing line within its existing facility in Maharashtra, shifting from importing and repacking to local production for the Indian and Asian market. The primary goal was to develop a cost-effective solution while maintaining high operational standards. The project required a comprehensive basic design phase to streamline the process, ensure efficient plant layout, and create an accurate project cost sheet within the constraints of the existing infrastructure. PMG was engaged to support the design and planning stages of this strategic initiative.
Solution
PMG provided comprehensive support during the basic design phase, for the feasibility that M&M chocolate manufacturing line could be set up efficiently within the existing facility. The project included designing a detailed process flow for the production line, optimizing the plant layout to fit seamlessly within the current infrastructure, and preparing a detailed project cost sheet to outline financial requirements. PMG also developed a human resource plan to ensure the availability of skilled personnel, coordinated with multiple equipment suppliers to source cost-effective and suitable machinery, and analyzed utility consumption for the new line. Additionally, User Requirement Specifications (URS) were created to define precise equipment and facility needs. All these efforts culminated in a comprehensive proposal, including the design, scope, and budget, which Mars India’s management presented for final approval at the global level.
Outcome
The project resulted in a clear and well-defined scope and budget, which provided client with the necessary framework for global approval. The successful preparation of the project details—covering design, budget, and scope—ensured that Mars India could present a solid case to Global team, facilitating the project's progression. Moreover, the layout and design were developed to integrate seamlessly into the existing facility, minimizing operational disruptions while optimizing resource utilization. With the project’s approval, Mars India will position it’s plan to shift from importing and repacking to local manufacturing, driving significant cost savings and improving responsiveness to the Indian market.
