Powder Handling & Bulk Density Facts
Powder handling is influenced by more than particle size. Bulk density, moisture content, particle shape, flowability, compressibility, and cohesion can all affect how a powder behaves during storage, conveying, dosing, mixing, and processing.
Bulk density is particularly important when designing silos, hoppers, conveyors, feeders, and other handling equipment. Changes in density can affect storage capacity, flow rates, equipment sizing, and process consistency.
Understanding these technical properties helps engineers design more reliable powder handling systems, reduce flow problems, minimize product loss, and improve efficiency across food and bulk material processing operations.
