Organic wines
ORGANIC WINES Organic wine refers to the wine that is produced using organic farming practices, without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers. The term encompasses the entire process from vineyard to bottle, including grape cultivation and winemaking practices. It promotes environment friendly agricultural practices along with use of less additives, which gives them a natural and purer taste. 1. Organic grape cultivation Organic vineyards avoid the use of synthetic chemicals and focus on natural methods to control pests and diseases. This includes using natural fertilizers, beneficial insects, cover crops, and compost. 2. Certification Organic wines are usually certified by an accredited organization that verifies adherence to organic standards. Different countries have different certification bodies, such as the USDA Organic certification in the United States or the European Union Organic certification in the European Union. While sulfites can occur naturally during fermentation, the use of additional sulfites is limited in organic winemaking. 4. Biodynamic wines Biodynamic practices include using specific preparations, following lunar cycles, and considering the vineyard's overall health. 5. Taste and quality Organic wines can vary in taste, quality, and style just like conventional wines. The organic label primarily indicates the farming practices used in grape cultivation. However, many organic winemakers also prioritize natural winemaking methods, which may result in wines that express their terroir more authentically.
