A pizza production line is an automated system used in the food industry to produce pizza at scale. The purpose is straightforward: raise efficiency and productivity across the pizza-making process while holding quality consistent from unit to unit and reducing labour costs — the three factors that usually decide whether a plant moves from manual or semi-automatic assembly to a continuous line.

The line is built from a sequence of dedicated stations. A dough divider takes a large piece of pizza dough and divides it into smaller, uniform pieces for individual pizzas. A dough rounder then rounds and shapes each divided piece into a ball or disc for further processing, and a dough press flattens it to a uniform thickness and shape for baking. A sauce applicator spreads a uniform layer of tomato sauce or other sauce onto the crust, and a topping applicator can apply a variety of toppings such as cheese, meats, vegetables and spices. The pizza is baked in a conveyor oven or other type of oven, then cooled and packaged for distribution.

Because each station governs one variable — piece weight, disc shape, base thickness, sauce coverage, topping distribution, bake and cooling — the line is only as consistent as its weakest step.
