Edible fat and oil machines play a pivotal role in modern food production, efficiently extracting oils from various sources like seeds and nuts. These machines employ advanced technology, ensuring precision in processing, extraction, and purification. Edible fat and oil machines are food processing equipment used to extract, refine and package edible oils and fats from a range of sources, both plant and animal. In the food industry they underpin the production of vegetable oils, animal fats and margarine, and the way a line is configured determines the quality, stability and yield of the finished product.

A complete plant is built up from four functional stages. Oilseed preparation machines condition the raw material, such as soybeans or rapeseeds, ready for extraction. Oil extraction machines then recover the oil from the prepared feedstock. Oil refining machines remove impurities and improve the quality of the oil, and oil fractionation machines separate the oil into different components based on their melting points, which is how specific fat fractions are obtained for particular applications.

The equipment set that delivers those stages includes a hopper to hold the raw material, such as seeds or nuts, before processing; a conveyor to move the raw material from the hopper to the processing machine; refining equipment to refine and purify the extracted oil or fat; fractionation equipment to separate the oil or fat into different components by melting point; a heat exchanger to control the temperature of the oil or fat through the processing stages; and pumps to move the oil or fat from one stage of processing to the next.

Because temperature control and clean transfer govern both product quality and the economics of the plant, heat exchangers and pumps deserve as much attention at the design stage as the extraction and refining machines themselves.
