Document daily safety briefings before work begins
Overview
Toolbox talks are short, focused safety briefings delivered to workers at the start of each
shift. They address specific hazards relevant to the day's tasks — working at heights,
excavation safety, electrical isolation, and so on. This is the foundation of a
behavior-based safety (BBS) program: brief daily reminders that keep safety
front-of-mind.
Like Induction, Toolbox Talk uses a two-tier structure: Talk Topics (reusable
templates) and Talk Sessions (the actual daily briefings).
Managing Talk Topics
Talk topics are reusable templates that capture the briefing content. Build a library of
topics so conductors can select from pre-built material rather than writing from scratch
each day.
Go to Toolbox Talk > Topics and click New Topic.
Enter the Topic name (e.g., "Working at Heights Safety", "Hot Work Precautions").
Add a detailed Description covering key talking points.
Upload Reference Files (safety bulletins, photos, procedure PDFs).
Click Save.
Tip: Align talk topics with the week's planned high-risk activities. If excavation
work is scheduled for Tuesday, prepare a "Trenching & Excavation Safety" topic in advance.
