Authorize high-risk activities with safety checklists
Overview
A Permit to Work (PTW) is a formal written authorization required before any high-risk
activity can begin. Hot work, confined space entry, electrical isolation, working at
heights, excavation near services — all require a permit that documents the hazards,
precautions, and a completed safety checklist. The PTW system ensures that dangerous
work is only performed after proper risk assessment and approval.
Creating Permit Types
Permit types are templates that define the kind of permit and its required safety checklist.
Set these up once per project and reuse them for every permit of that type.
Navigate to Permit to Work > Permit Types and click New Type.
Enter the Name (e.g., "Hot Work Permit", "Confined Space Entry", "Electrical Isolation").
Add a Description explaining when this permit type is required.
Define the Checklist Items — each item is a safety check that must be verified before work begins (e.g., "Fire extinguisher placed within 5m", "Gas test completed and within safe limits", "Area barricaded").
Click Save.
Important: Permit type names are unique per project. The checklist items you define
