Opportunity
The project was envisaged by the AAK Kamani Private Limited team for expansion of the existing plant in Khopoli, Maharashtra, India. Having a total refining capacity of 3,24,000 metric tons per year. The target was to complete the overall design and execution of the project encompassing civil and building, including PEB in over a 12-month timeline. The PMG team was entrusted with the design and execution supervision of various infrastructure of the facility, like industrial services, warehouse dock yard, production building amenity block, Hygienic change room, Quality Lab, hygienic sampling station and some ancillary buildings like security personal block, truck and tanker weighbridge, covered pathway, vehicle parking. The civil and building design followed with the electrical power and lighting systems. The design and installation of these services posed significant challenges, particularly as the project required upgrading the existing utilities.
Solution
The Basic and Detailed Design work included a comprehensive assessment and upgrade of existing utilities infrastructure, such as buildings infrastructure and electrical systems. The scope of work involved developing key engineering documents, including, building layouts & elevations, structural design, Goof For Construction drawings and electrical equipment layout and distribution plans for a thorough condition assessment. The project also included the design and planning of necessary upgrades for existing Building and the creation of new utility systems. The infrastructure design was to consider the integration required for the existing building and to design to accommodate the harsh rain conditions. Active collaboration with all stakeholders was key to ensuring quality and alignment at every stage. User Requirement Specifications (URS) were developed for each component, complete with a Bill of Quantities (BOQ), performance parameters, and expectations. The project also involved floating inquiries, evaluating offers from suppliers and contractors, and providing support to the Client’s purchase team to ensure timely purchase orders and advances. The review and approval of shop drawings from each supplier were meticulously handled, with all designs integrated into a master drawing to ensure Good for Construction (GFC) drawings were issued for execution.
Outcome
Completion of design ensured robust infrastructure, in line with the stakeholder expectation and the key project requirements. The AAK Kamani Private Limited make timely decisions to keep the project on track. A key focus was ensuring alignment among all stakeholders at every stage of the project ensured timely project completion and alignment in all stages of the project phase. The intensive nature of design work, combined with proactive procurement support and consistent follow-ups with major and minor suppliers and contractors, enabled our team to meet these objectives. With extensive knowledge of food safety and hygienic engineering standards, PMG provided both in-scope and out-of-scope inputs throughout the project, emphasizing our commitment to the overall success of the project, regardless of our formal scope.
