Boiler Efficiency and Fuel Consumption — Workspace
Boiler Fuel Consumption, Boiler Efficiency Direct, and Boiler Efficiency Indirect via GCV and NCV: inputs, method and gotchas.
What these calculators are for
Four calculators for steam boilers: how much fuel a boiler needs for a steam
demand, and how efficient a boiler is — either from steam and fuel
measurements (direct) or from fuel analysis and flue-gas readings
(indirect).
Values the boiler calculators share
Fuel type — Kerosene, Bio Diesel Methyl Ester,
Diesel Oil, L.D.O, Furnace Oil, LSHS, Bituminous coal, Anthracite coal,
Petroleum Coke, Lignite dry basis, Wood, Natural gas, Propane, Butane,
Ethane or LPG. Each has a built-in GCV and
NCV in kcal/kg, shown with the result. Natural gas is
per kg too (12,533 / 11,467 kcal/kg: 9,400 / 8,600 kcal per Sm³ at
0.75 kg/Sm³), since the flows are in kg/hr; Propane is 12,030 /
11,070 kcal/kg.
Operating pressure (gauge) — picked from 1 to 29
kg/cm²(g), the reading on the boiler’s pressure gauge. It is
converted to absolute pressure (+1.0332 kg/cm², then to bar) and
the steam enthalpy (kcal/kg) is read from a built-in
table of absolute pressures, interpolated between rows.
Feed water temperature — picked from 30 to 110
°C in ste…
